Colt has been doing some pretty cute things lately. One of my favorite is when he sees the other kids getting ready for swimming he will yank down his pants and yell ta da. He is so proud of himself. Of course the sad thing is usually the kids are going to swimming lessons and he can't go. Of course this always makes him so sad. He will drop his shoulders and his lower lip will stick out. This kids is so dramatic.
The other day we were at Cherry Hill and we were getting ready to head home. All the kids were getting a snack and drying off before we headed to the car. I glanced over to Colt and noticed he was falling while he was sitting. Poor kid can't miss his nap. I am sure we will have a lot more incidents like this over the next couple of months.

Sleepy Baby

Being the baby is not always easy. On Wednesdays Colt's nap is not always the best. He usually goes down at 1:00pm, but I have to leave at 1:10pm to pick up Eliza for dance so no nap. Luckily most Wednesdays he will fall asleep in the car. For some reason this time he didn't. He seemed pretty happy. I started to think that maybe he was getting ready to get rid of naps. That is until I started to make dinner. He was leaning on his chair playing peek-a-boo with me. I got a little destracted and when I turned around to say boo I noticed he wasn't really playing anymore. On closer examination I noticed he was asleep.
It was late and I didn't want him to sleep for too long, but I figured sleeping standing up he would probably wake up pretty quickly. I was right and wrong. He did wake up prettily quickly, but he just laid on the floor and went back to sleep. Poor kids can sleep anywhere. Hopefully by summer he can get a little rest since we won't be so busy. At least I hope we won't be too busy.

A Little Bunny Visitor

A couple of weeks ago Forrest called me out on the deck to look at a bunny in our neighbors yard. It seems that it had escaped from somewhere and had taken up residences at our neighbors. The kids got a real kick out of it. They would bring it food and sometimes catch it. Our neighbors put out feelers, but it seems like it didn't belong to anyone. Finally one of our neighbors caught it and took it to their home. It had been attacked by a cat and seemed like it needed a little TLC.
The kids favorite part of course was feeding it. I am sure the rabbit appreciated it. Just not all the chasing it took to try and feed it.
Our rabbit will be missed good thing we have a guenie pig to replace it.

The Annual Richey Easter Egg Hunt

The annual Richey Easter Egg was a little bit of an adventure this year.
First we started out with our group picture. You can see Ann trying to keep everyone organized. It wasn't working. The plan was to include the older kids we would hide two golden eggs with $5 bills in them and five more with $1 bill and five more with two quarters. As you can see from the picture kids are already getting upset. Ben is crying. No actually poor Ben forgot his allergy medicine that day and boy did that kid look miserable.
If you look closely it really makes you glad that you don't have allergies. Once it was time to go the kids were off in a flash. They were looking everywhere for the golden egg. The regular eggs were just ignored. Well expect for the little kids who only really cared about the candy.
That would have been Colt. We couldn't get him to stop and it didn't help that the older kids were ignoring the candy eggs. So he just kept filling up his basket.
Eventually things settled down. Well at least for most of the kids. Poor Ross's kids were determined to find The Golden Eggs. It probably didn't help that Preston had already found one. Xandra was able to find the last one so we had some very disappointed kids. We will definitely have to rethink this next year. The big hit of the day was the ring pops or as I like to call them big kids binkies.

Dying Eggs

I know I am a little late getting these up, but better late than never. And Janet will kill me if I don't keep her updated. Every Easter we dye eggs. The kids love it, but this year Forrest decided that he was too old. It just about broke my heart. He is supposed to stay young and enjoy all these things. Now he just wants to play video games or hang out outside. Anyways Colt and Eliza where very eager to do it.
Eliza worked very hard and her eggs looked wonderful.
Colt on the other hand. I think he wanted to see how big of a splash he could make. I have never had such a big mess. There was colored water everywhere. Notice the yellow hads and the big puddle of water. Greg was trying to help him, but after awhile just gave up. Everything was going well until Colt noticed Eliza's empty jars and wanted to help her. It got ugly there for a minute, but everything worwked out. Both kids had a blast, especially Colt. Hopefully next year it will be a little cleaner. One can only hope.

Waterfall Hike

A couple of weeks ago when the weather just started turning nice we headed out for a nice hike up Waterfall Canyon. Right before we left I had everyone run to the bathroom. Of course I was so busy trying to get everyone out the door that I forgot to go myself. As soon as we hit the parking lot I needed to go. Of course the bathrooms were still locked. The worse part of it was Greg and Forrest. First Forrest decided he needs to go so he just runs off the side of the trail. Then when we get to the top Greg takes Colt out of the backpack and sets him down on some rocks and figures he wouldn't go anywhere. I am down the hill aways trying to get Eliza up the last hill and I see Colt trying to crawl over the rocks to play in the water.
This is where Greg finally caught him. I asked him what he was thinking and he said he thought Colt would just stay still. Does this man not know his own child. A two year old sitting still, that is pretty funny.
Anyways we made it to the top and a nice man even took our pictures so I am actually in a picture. It almost never happens.
Colt was a real trooper he hiked almost the whole trail. We just had to carry him when it got rocky. Actually I should rephrase that he ran almost the whole trail with me chasing him. It was a pretty good hike. Well except for one thing and Greg ran to his parents house so I wouldn't loose it.

Star of the Month

This month is Forrest Birthday so I thought I would take a minute to highlight him.
Name: Forrest. Named after his Great-Grandfather Forrest Waters.
Nickname: Kiddo.
Grade: 4th grade with Mrs. Carrigan as his teacher.
Best Feature: His smile. He is always has a big smile on his face and when he gets sad he doesn't stay that way for long. His smile can really light up a room.
Activities he is involved with: He does 4-H Lego Robotics, cub scouts and Intramurals which is a bunch of different sports played all year. They play Basketball, badmitton, ping pong, dodge ball, Scooter ball, 2-man carry and Crab Soccer. He loved these activities and he is getting really good at them.
What he wants to be when he grows up: An inventor
Favorite thing he does in school: He loves Mrs Mankin's Science expirements and he loves going to Mrs. Stevens to learn about Utah's History.
Talents: Forrest has a great imagination. He is always thinking of how things work or how they came to be. He loves to design things and figure out how they work. Forrest is a very good bike rider. If he isn't out jumping on the tramp then he is out riding his bike. He loves to be outside and enjoy nature. Forrest also has a very tender heart. He can see when people need help and step in and help out. He is always asking me if there is anything he can do to help. Which is just so wonderful because he always does it when I really do need help.

Favorite thing to do when he has free time: Play on the computer, DS or wii. Jump on the tramp or ride his bike.
One more thing he is really good at: Being a Big Brother. Forrest will play with Eliza and Colt. He does get frustrated at times, but for the most part he does a great job playing with them. When we go to McDonalds he helps keep track of Colt. He is always singing the Wheels of The Bus with Colt and I, but he does it so silly it always makes Colt laugh. He lets Eliza hang with him and his friends and will help her with her own lego creations. Forrest is a great assest to our family and I am so glad that he chose us to be his parents.

The Evil One

The other day while I was cleaning the house I noticed that it was quiet. A little too quiet considering that I have a two year-old. I immediately dropped what I was doing and went searching for him. This is how I found him.
He was so excited to show me how he was helping me clean. Seeing that he had been playing in the toilet so he would now need a bath and I needed to clean the bathroom I decided to kill to birds with one stone by giving him a bath while I cleaned the bathroom. Thinking that he would be fine while I ran downstairs to get my cleaning supplies I left him alone. Rookie mistake. By the time I got back upstairs he had unrolled all the toilet paper into the toilet bowl and was using the scrub brush to try to stuff it down the hole. Needles to say the toilet was clogged.
Another funny incident was when I told Forrest we had an Orthodontist appointment. He asked me what they were going to do while he was there. I told him I really didn't know. His response was maybe they can do some tests to try to figure out how to get these things off. I laughed and told him they already do know how to get them off they are just waiting until your teeth are cooperating. When I talked to the Orthodontist it seems like he still has another 2 to 4 months. At least there is an end in sight.

Baby Animal Days

This year I convinced Valerie to head up with me. Of course the morning we were going to go it was raining. I watched the weather and we decided that we should wait until afternoon. I am really glad we did. The weather had let up and most people had decided to wait until Friday to go. We pretty much had the place to ourselves. It was a little muddy, but the kids didn't mind.
The highlight of the whole trip was just holding the baby animals. The kids loved it. We had saved holding all the animals until very last so the kids could really enjoy it.
Eliza loved holding the bunnies the most and Forrest loved holding the chickens.
My favorite line of the whole day was from Ben. After holding the chickens Valerie made sure to really wash Ben's hands. She told him that they had to make sure there was not any feathers still on him. Ben was really confused. He couldn't figure out where the feathers would have come from.

Today when we came in from outside playing Eliza immediately headed to the Fridge to get something to drink. I assumed she was getting some water. I was very wrong. By the time I got to the kitchen she had a 2-liter bottle of Root Beer open and was guzzling it down like it was the water of life. This child is going to be the death of me.

Forrest Birthday Party Part 2

Luckily for Forrest he will have other memories of his seventh birthday besides what happened at the Parents. Luckily this year he was also having a friends birthday party. Every other year the kids get to have a friends party and this year Forrest chose to go to Chuck E Cheese. He and his friends had a ton of fun playing games and eating pizza. For me it was wonderful because everything was taken care. Easiest party I have ever done and the best part about it was that Forrest had a blast.

The Annual Easter Egg Hunt

Once again we headed up to the Parents house for our annual Easter Egg hunt. The day was pretty crazy. For once it was actually Easter, but it was also Forrest birthday. We did a quick celebration for him and then headed outside for the hunt. This year wasn't a very good one. I feel like I really didn't get very many good pictures.
My kids are much faster at finding eggs and the light wasn't very good. With only six eggs to find they had it done pretty quickly, maybe next year the men will have to hide them in harder spots.

A little behind

You could say it has been awhile since I have blogged. Things got a little busy around here and well I lost all motivation to blog. Two of my sisters have noticed the lapse and commented on it. I guess someone really does read this thing. Anyways I figure I should probably get back in the swing of things. Most of you have seen, but for those who haven't we finally did get Eliza's room finished. Trying to find curtains was hard. Eliza can be a little destructive so I wanted to find something that wasn't too expensive and if she decided to swing from them it wouldn't rip big holes in the wall. I finally found some curtians that will just slide off and amazingly enough she has left them alone.
She is also very proud of her room. Anytime someone new comes over she has to show them her room. She loves the paint and her new bed. I guess all the hard work finally paid off.

Red Haven

I have really gotten into gardening in a big way if you couldn't tell. Last week I decided that we needed a peach tree for our backyard. Forrest and Eliza helped me pick it out and today we were able to plant it.
The kids of course were a big help.
Forrest even got out of his sick bed to come help. Yesterday at school he threw-up. For the rest of the night he was pretty miserable. When he woke up this morning we thought we were over the worst of it, but he threw-up again. I was picturing a long day with a sick kid, but ten minutes later he was telling me he was fine and running around the house. I really wish I could bounce back that fast.
We are really hoping that we will get some peaches this year. Forrest has told us that he will try one only because it was grown in our backyard. If it comes from the store it just isn't as good. We are raising that kid right.

Eliza is Talking

Eliza is coming a long way in her talking. She is trying to say a lot of words and most of the time we can even understand her. Her new thing is trying to say peoples names. My favorite is when she says hi to one of my friends. It is always Hi(pause) Hol-eee. It is really cute. Greg's favorite was when she was on the potty the other day and she said "Go away, poop" He wants to put it in her baby book as her first sentence. I think she would hate that so I figured I would just blog about. We are really exicted about all the progress she has made. There is even more good news. Her doctor feels she has come so far that we wont' have to do the MRI and EEG. This is a big load off of our shoulders. Of course now that she is starting to talk we can't get her to stop. This posses a problem in Sacrament, but it is worth it.

So Tired

The weather is wonderful, the kids are active and we have a lot more activities going on which means sleep is starting to suffer. This morning when we woke up Forrest he told us that when he got home from school today he was going to take a nap. Of course that is never going to happen, but it tells you how tired he is when he is volunteering to go to bed early and would love to take an afternoon nap if he could.

Moving on up

I can't believe Forrest is now an orange belt. He really loves karate and is doing very well. Each week he gets better and better. Before you know it he will be a black belt and then we will all need to watch out because we will have a true karate kid in the house.

Making Progress

It seems like we are finally making progress with Eliza's room. This weekend Greg worked really hard and was able to install all the boards. Now all we need is a little touch ups here and there and then we can paint. Of course Greg is now sicker than a dog and can't really do anything.
Our family has been dealing with a lovely cold bug the last couple of weeks. Eliza got if first and it still seems to be hanging on. Forrest got it second. He came home from school Friday sneezing up a storm. By that night he was cough and hacking everywhere. On Saturday he sounded much worse, but it was the Union Station annual train show. Forrest had been looking forward to this all week. Being the bad mom that I am I let him go. Hopefully he didn't infect too many people. By Saturday night I was pretty sure he that he would have stay home from church the next day. He sounded awful. I was even thinking that he might have to miss a couple of days of school. That of course was until Sunday morning when he woke up all better. He still has a little bit of a stuffy nose and will cough occasionally, but on the whole he is all better. I sure wish I could get over colds that way. I think Greg wishes the same thing. He started feeling a little under the weather Friday night, but still worked hard all day Saturday to finish Eliza's room. Of course by Sunday he was completely under the weather. He still went into work to day, but I suspect he will be warming the couch most of tonight. And of course last but not least I woke up this morning with a sore throat. I am hoping I only get a mild case, or maybe have a miraculous recovery like Forrest. Either way I really don't have time to get sick so of course this would be the time it would happen.
